NASA Schedules Live Coverage for Two Spacewalks Outside the International Space Station
NASA has announced plans to provide live coverage of two upcoming spacewalks outside the International Space Station (ISS). These extravehicular activities (EVAs) are part of ongoing efforts to upgrade and maintain the station’s infrastructure.
Spacewalk 1 – January 16, 2022
The first spacewalk is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. EST (5 a.m. PST) on January 16, 2022, and is expected to last approximately six and a half hours. NASA will provide live coverage starting at 6:30 a.m. EST (3:30 a.m. PST) on NASA+. Astronauts Nick Hague and Suni Williams will conduct the spacewalk to replace a rate gyro assembly, install patches on the Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) telescope, and replace a reflector device used for navigational data on one of the international docking adapters. Hague will serve as spacewalk crew member 1 and will wear a suit with red stripes, while Williams will serve as spacewalk crew member 2 and will wear an unmarked suit. This will be the fourth spacewalk for Hague and the eighth for Williams.
Spacewalk 2 – January 30, 2022
The second spacewalk is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. EST (5 a.m. PST) on January 30, 2022, and is expected to last approximately six and a half hours. NASA will provide live coverage starting at 6:30 a.m. EST (3:30 a.m. PST) on NASA+. Details regarding the specific tasks and crew members for this spacewalk will be announced closer to the date.
